Wheelchair & access cabs

Wheelchair accessible taxi in Sydney

Wheelchair accessible vehicles (WATs) and access cabs across Greater Sydney. Ramp access, tie-down restraints, driver assistance, and Cabcharge accepted. Arranged on request with notice.

To book a wheelchair taxi, please call 1300 512 424 so we send the right vehicle with a working ramp and a trained driver.

A wheelchair accessible taxi (WAT) — sometimes called an access cab — carries a passenger who stays in their wheelchair for the trip. The vehicle has a rear or side ramp, anchor points to tie the chair down, and room for a carer to sit alongside.

How a WAT trip works

  • Tell us the wheelchair type or mobility aid, whether a carer is travelling, and the pickup and drop-off addresses.
  • We dispatch a WAT with a driver trained to deploy the ramp, secure the chair and assist from kerb to reception.
  • Hospital, dialysis and aged-care trips can be booked as standing return runs, so the same driver collects you each week.
  • Fixed fare with tolls included, Cabcharge and Cabcharge FastCard accepted.

Where we run access cabs

Across Greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains — including regular runs to Royal North Shore, Hornsby, Royal Prince Alfred, Nepean, Prince of Wales and Gosford hospitals.

Wheelchair taxi questions

Do you have a wheelchair accessible taxi?
Yes. Wheelchair accessible vehicles (WATs) are available across the Sydney Silver Taxi Cabs network and are arranged on request with a little notice so we send the right vehicle with a trained driver and working ramp.
How do I book a wheelchair taxi?
Call 1300 512 424 with the pickup address, the wheelchair size or mobility aid, and the appointment time. We confirm the vehicle, the driver and the fare before dispatch. Hospital and dialysis return trips can be set up as a standing booking.
Does the driver help with boarding?
Yes. Drivers of WAT vehicles are trained to deploy the ramp, secure the chair with the tie-down restraint and assist from kerb to reception. Please tell us if you need the driver to come to the door.
Can I pay a wheelchair taxi with Cabcharge or an NDIS plan?
Cabcharge and Cabcharge FastCard are accepted on WAT trips. For funded transport, book by phone so we can match the correct billing and provide a receipt that suits your plan manager.
